Email Marketing for Small Businesses

January 26th, 2010

There is a lot of pressure for companies of virtually any size to hop on the bandwagon and get into email marketing. It’s particularly effective for small businesses. The question some of these companies end up asking themselves is “Why?” Well, in three words: Because it works.

Email marketing is the type of thing you’ve likely been exposed to thousands of times since buying your first computer. It’s the advertising you receive to your email inbox that comes from businesses you are connected with or from others who happened upon your address.

Perhaps the greatest thing about email marketing, and one of the big reasons why it appeals to so many small businesses, is that it’s relatively inexpensive. Compared to the thousands of dollars a magazine ad could cost, the money spent on email campaigns seems like nothing. In actuality, if the email campaign takes a bare bones approach to things, the cost could be virtually nothing. That’s a huge plus over other forms of marketing. Magazines have already been noted as being expensive, but other ways of getting the message out can cost a lot as well. Television and even radio, for instance, can cost more than a lot of small businesses stand to earn.

An email marketing message can be designed quickly and easily by just about anyone and, unlike other forms of advertising, the results won’t strike people as being amateur. Television and radio advertising, on the other hand, involve hiring on a lot of outside help. Even a good magazine won’t likely publish an ad that’s been thrown together by an inexperienced designer.

Once the campaign is in progress, the results can be tracked in a way that’s better and more efficient than just about any other type of marketing out there. The statistics don’t even require much knowledge to understand either, so the small business can do it all on its own. Then, with the statistics right there, the small business can tweak and alter their email advertising however they want and see if the results improve.

The fact that the results come in so fast can be taken advantage of in a lot of ways. A small business will likely be starting out with a relatively small amount of email recipients, but they can still send different forms of their email to different segments of those people. The emails are received instantly and the results can be viewed over the next several days. It will then be clear which format is working best.

Small business owners won’t likely be able to invest in fancy software to aid in all of this, but there are services that they can hire out over the internet that do a lot of the tracking for them at a low cost. With all of that in mind, it should be clear that this is one of the best marketing alternatives that any small business can have.

If you want to earn a living online, email marketing is one of the most popular ways to do so. However, it’s important that you do your research and choose the right email marketing solutions before you get started. Check out Make Money on Computer for more information.
